South Carolina opted to change things up for the team's first game Saturday, and Will Muschamp hinted Wednesday that it could be more than just a one-time thing.
The Gamecocks will wear new helmets in their season opener against Coastal Carolina, wearing garnet lids with a black script "Carolina" written across the side.

Muschamp said it'll be a week-to-week decision and didn't say the script helmets were just a one-off uniform decision or if they'd bring it back for another game this season.
“We got very good positive feedback," Muschamp said on the weekly SEC Teleconference. "The players are excited about it. As long as they’re excited about it, I’m great with it.”
The team announced the change in a highly-anticipated video Tuesday, and it was met with a lot of fanfare that night.
As of 1 p.m. Wednesday it was over 4,000 retweets and had 251,000 views on Twitter alone.
It's just the second major deviation from the Block C helmet since 1974, and first since wearing the tail feather helmets against Florida in 2015.

While the script helmet may make another appearance later in the season, Muschamp said it'll only be on the garnet helmets.
The idea of the script helmets started gaining steam with the fanbase on social media last week and over the weekend before the official announcement, but Muschamp said this decision was a long time in the making.
“That’s something we had talked about in the offseason and I was 100 percent for it," he said. "I met with our senior group and we talked about putting the Carolina script on one of the helmets and they chose the garnet helmet.”

Muschamp has also embraced the script Carolina in his game day wardrobe, wearing a black polo with that logo emblazoned on it every week. He jokes the all black makes him look thinner, but it's also an homage to legendary Gamecock coach Joe Morrison who championed the look in the 1980s.
The Gamecocks will kick off their season, debuting the script logo, Saturday against Coastal Carolina at noon. The game will kick off at noon on the SEC Network.
