New commit: 'They stayed loyal to me and I stayed loyal to them'

Former Aiken (S.C.) Silver Bluff lineman Devontae Davis is coming home.

The class of 2019 Georgia Military defensive end committed to South Carolina Wednesday afternoon.

"They were on me since high school," Davis said. "I didn’t make it academically, so they stayed with me through junior college. I’ve been there a couple times. They stayed loyal to me and I stayed loyal to them. I feel like I fit in real good."

The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder received major interest from the Gamecocks out of high school and even took an official visit to the school, but enrolled at GMC when he did not qualify.

Davis is set to graduate from GMC in December and will enroll at South Carolina in January of 2019 with three years to play two.

Davis informed Muschamp of his decision to commit on Wednesday.

"He said it’s a good day for the Gamecocks on and off the field," Davis said of his reaction.

Davis collected 5.0 sacks and 7 tackles-for-loss this past season.
