Notebook: Injury updates, hot hitting, plus Kentucky's announced starter

--The No. 11 seeded Gamecocks won their first SEC Tournament game since 2012, snapping a seven-game losing streak in Hoover. They’ll move into the double-elimination section of the bracket, playing No. 3 seed Kentucky at approximately 2 p.m. EST on SEC Network. The game, originally scheduled for 10:30 a.m., due to the Georgia-Mississippi State being rained out on Tuesday and being pushed back to 10:30 a.m.

--Chad Holbrook said he’s not sure who will start tomorrow but it will not be Wil Crowe. He said Cody Morris is fresh and ready to go, but didn’t announce an official starter. Kentucky will start Brad Schaenzer (5-0, 3.21 ERA).

--LT Tolbert is battling a bevy of injuries, Holbrook said after Tuesday’s game. Tolbert has been playing with a “bum wrist” over the past few months and left two games last week with migraine problems. Holbrook said he’s also added a knee issue to his injury report. It’s unclear if Tolbert will be in the lineup Wednesday against Kentucky.

--Jacob Olson missed the start of the game due to sickness. Danny Blair started in his stead. Olson would pinch-hit in the eighth inning and would eventually draw two walks and score a run. Holbrook said after the game Olson has strep throat.

--Justin Row tied a team season-high with three runs scored in Tuesday’s 7-4 win. He finished going 2-for-4 with a RBI, including a big two-out double in the 11th. He’s hitting 7-for-16 (.438) with nine runs scored and four RBI since Madison Stokes went out with a wrist injury.

--Saturday was the first SEC game since May 7 the Gamecocks scored in the first inning, ending a span of six games not plating a run in the first inning.

--The three homers in Tuesday’s game were the same amount the Gamecocks hit in their last 14 SEC Tournament games combined.

--Carlos Cortes, fresh off being named to the All-SEC Freshman Team, went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in the first inning. He was also intentionally wanted twice. He’s now hitting .337 in 24 SEC starts, including the postseason, and has a team-best 10 home runs.

--Tyler Johnson notched season-highs in innings (4.1) and strikeouts (eight) and picked up his first win of the season. It’s his first win since his last start, a complete game against UNCW in last year’s regional.

--All nine starters reached base at least once and six of the nine had hits. Row had the only multi-hit day. It was his fourth of the season and first since May 16 against USC Upstate.
