The highlights:
USC quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus said he was pleased with all his quarterbacks retention of the playbook from the fall tot he spring. Mangus said Dylan Thompson will get plenty of repetitions this spring because unlike Connor Shaw in years past, while Thompson is older he hasn't played a ton. Mangus said the scrimmage time will go heavily to backups Brendan Nosovitch and Connor Mitch.
Mangus said Mitch has improved over his redshirt year. He said he's seen some players waste redshirt years, but Mitch hasn't. He's improved his knowledge of where to go with the ball, his passing and now just needs "grass time" this spring.
Running backs coach Everette Sands said redshirt freshman running back David Williams also didn't waste his redshirt year. He said Williams lowered his 40-yard-dash time to a 4.34, added 10 pounds and improved all his weight room numbers, which is exactly what a redshirt year should do.
Offensive line coach Shawn Elliott said he's been very pleased with his group so far and especially with their ability to understand how to play as a unit, which is what it will take. He said there's still no clear leader at the right guard position.
Jadeveon Clowney and Bruce Ellington both came by practice Thursday. Clowney said he's spending the time in the mornings he used to go to class working out and preparing for the draft. He said the most difficult thing about this phase of life before the draft has been all the negativity he hears on television from national media members.
Note: Steve Spurrier will hold conduct his radio call-in show tonight beginning at 7 p.m. from Wild Wings in the Vista.
INJURY REPORT: In yellow Thursday were Kaiwan Lewis (knee), Jordan Diaz (knee), Connor McLaurin (left leg), Sharrod Golightly (knee), Jody Fuller (knee), Brandon Wilds (tooth surgery), Kane Whitehurst (left foot in a boot).
