Recruiting picking up for in-state ATH

Greer (S.C.) three-star ATH Quavian White is considered by many to be one of the state of South Carolina's most underrated talents.

Schools are starting to take notice.

The 5-foot-9, 173-pound do-it-all athlete recently landed an offer from Appalachian State after Georgia State offered a couple of months ago and South Carolina recently renewed its interest in him.

White was in Columbia last Wednesday to work out for the Carolina coaches.

"It was great," White said. "I've been there I think two times before that time. It's nice. I got to learn some of the distinct techniques that they use and it worked, so that's good. I like it down there and it would be an in-state offer."

White, who could play cornerback, receiver or running back at the next level, is being recruited to Carolina by area recruiter Bobby Bentley.

He spoke to the coaches about a possible offer after the camp.

"I really don't know [if South Carolina will offer]," White said. "Coach is saying that they're really close to offering and they want me to get back up there soon."

White's most recent offer came from Appalachian State earlier this week.

"I think they like me a lot," White said. "It's an offer than I had been thinking I was going to get, because they have been talking to me a lot. I think they like me at corner more, but they like me at wide receiver also. They don't know where they're going to have me playing if I do go up there. They've got a pretty nice stadium, but I haven't taken a tour of the school yet."

He'll visit the school later this month.

After camping at Carolina Wednesday, White camped Thursday at Georgia State, where former Lexington High head coach Josh Stepp is recruiting him to play both ways.

"Georgia State is nice and they've accomplished a lot," White said. "Their stadium is going to be crazy and it's going to be where the Olympics were at. It's crazy. There's a lot of rebuilding down there. They said they're making dorm rooms for only the seniors where you can sleep at the stadium. (Stepp is) really, really cool. I would like for him to be a coach for me. He's straight-up with you."

Wisconsin was White's first major offer and he says they're still in touch with him.

"I love it up there," White said. "It's cold. They treat you like family up there, like they want you up there. Some schools are like, he's here, but Wisconsin is going to make you feel welcome and like you're at home. The players talk to me about how they like it up there. And the campus looks great."

White will visit Clemson on Wednesday and Florida State on Friday.

He says he's still open to schools and doesn't have any favorites.
