South Carolina redshirt freshman receiver Christian Owens will transfer, head coach Will Muschamp announced at his press conference Monday.

"He came to me last week and said he wanted to get closer to home," Muschamp said.

A 6-foot-5, 215-pounder from Griffin (Ga.) High, Owens took a redshirt last season and did not project to play much this year. He's been on the Gamecocks' scout team.

Gamecock Central sources have mentioned Georgia State as a potential landing spot for Owens.
