Rhodes commits to USC

South Carolina added a commitment along the offensive line on Sunday when Georgia's Jordan Rhodes made his verbal pledge to the Gamecocks.

The 6-foot-6, 300-pounder made an official visit to Columbia over the weekend and decided to end the process prior to departing USC's campus.

"South Carolina is the place where I can start something new and build with the team," Rhodes said following his commitment.

What stood out during his first in-depth visit to Columbia? Rhodes broke it down.

"The indoor facility," he said. "Every summer the guys go in there, work out, get better, and it shows on the field. The academic part is great. They have a 95 percent graduation rate, which is good. I was very impressed and it caught my attention."

Meeting with South Carolina's coaching staff, including head coach Will Muschamp and new offensive line coach Eric Wolford, was also a highlight.

"Coach Muschamp is a great guy and has a great personality. I think I’ll fit well. Coach Wolford is a great guy. He’s a former coach with the 49ers. He talked to me yesterday, me and my parents. He was like ‘Jordan, it’s possible for you to start at left tackle at South Carolina.’"

The Georgia product was also recruited by Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Missouri, and others. Rhodes, who has a basketball background, went into the 2016 season as a senior having only played one year of college football.

Rhodes had visits planned to Mississippi State and Missouri but will no longer take those trips.

No more visits.

"No sir, South Carolina’s the place to be," he said. "I think we’re headed for a national championship."
