Roland not returning
According to sources, South Carolina wide receiver Shaq Roland is not making the trip with the Gamecock football team for the Duck Commander Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The 6-foot-1, 176-pounder is not currently expected to be back in Columbia for his senior season, GamecockCentral.com has learned. Roland did not practice with USC on Tuesday prior to the team's departure for the bowl game, which will take place on December 27.
During his three-year career in Columbia, Roland caught a total of 56 passes for 891 yards and 10 touchdowns. A former four-star prospect out Lexington High in South Carolina, Roland is a former Mr. Football in the Palmetto State and was ranked by Rivals.com as the 66th-best prospect nationally in the 2012 class.
