Samuel commits VIDEO added

INMAN, S.C. - - After not signing a wide receiver in the 2013 class, South Carolina's football coaching staff wanted to add two or three at the position to the fold for 2014.

After landing a pair of four-star prospects in Gaffney's Shaq Davidson and Atlanta's Terry Googer, recruiting at the position seemed to cool down a bit.
That is, until Inman (S.C.) Chapman's Tyshun Samuel combined a strong summer camp performance in Columbia, a big senior season, and a qualifying test score into an offer from the Gamecocks. It's one he jumped on quickly, culminating in an announcement at his high school on Thursday.
"I've been waiting on South Carolina for a long time." he said of the Gamecock offer that came a couple of weeks ago. "I've been wanting to go since I was little."
Samuel is in the mold of some of the smaller, quicker receivers that USC has had success with lately such as Bruce Ellington. The Gamecock coaches envision taking advantage of his versatility.
"In the slot," he said of how USC planned on using him. "Outside, inside, maybe play some running back."
Samuel told media that USC's offense would be "hard to stop" with some of the receivers already on the roster and others on the way. What will he bring to the table?
"Another weapon on offense," he said.
The Upstate product also drew offers from North Carolina, NC State, and Vanderbilt. He was recruited to South Carolina by offensive line coach Shawn Elliott and is the fifteenth commitment of the 2014 class for the Gamecocks.
During his senior season, Samuel tallied 61 catches for 1,184 yards and scored a total of 30 touchdowns.
For his career, Samuel racked up 166 catches for 2,751 receiving yards and 36 touchdowns. He rushed 133 times for 898 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. He also returned 30 kicks for 732 yards and a pair of scores. On defense, he accumulated 94 tackles, 12 interceptions, and two defensive scores.
