Shi Smith moves up in rankings

South Carolina wide receiver commitment Shi Smith made a move into the Rivals250 on Tuesday in the final Rivals.com release for the 2017 class. The in-state pass-catcher checks in at number 205 in the rankings.

The Union County (South Carolina) standout was a participant in the 2016 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas and was one of the top performers in the week of practice and game itself.

"Smith is a shifty athlete who helped his stock with a strong showing at the Shrine Bowl," said Rivals.com Southeast recruiting analyst Woody Wommack. "He was the game's most explosive playmaker and could be an X-factor type player in South Carolina's offense."

Smith, who committed to the Gamecocks over the summer, joins five other members of South Carolina's 2017 recruiting class in the Rivals250. Safety Hamsah Nasirildeen (no. 63), defensive back Jamyest Williams (no. 159), wide receiver Chad Terrell (no. 194) are also in the final batch of rankings along with a pair of early enrollees from the class. Receiver OrTre Smith (no. 104) and defensive lineman MJ Webb (no. 200) also were selected to the Rivals250.
