Thompson court date moved

Class of 2014 men's basketball signee James Thompson's Louisiana court date has been pushed back to Aug. 6 per information from the alleged victim's father. Thompson was expected to be in court today on charges of second-degree battery and domestic abuse stemming from a June 9 arrest.

Sports Talk SC's Kevin McRarey has been in contact with the alleged victim's family and says they told him today they have no intention of dropping the charges against Thompson.

The delay is a setback for Thompson's ability to enroll in Summer II, which begins Monday, and join the team with the rest of the three incoming freshman who all already are participating in workouts and team activities. With Summer II final exams Aug. 6-7, Thompson's best-case scenario is to have the charges either dismissed or reduced to the extent that head coach Frank Martin feels comfortable bringing the 6-foot-9 forward to campus.

Fall classes begin Aug. 21.
