GamecockCentral.com awards game balls to the deserving players of No. 8 South Carolina's 49-6 win over UAB. What players or coaches had the biggest plays of the most recent game?
NO. 8 SOUTH CAROLINA 49, UAB 6
D.J. Swearinger
He says that he supplies the "swagg" and it's easy to see why. Swearinger turned the game around, after an early interception gave the Blazers a chance to pad a 3-0 lead. The ball popped out of Jonathan Perry's hand, Swearinger plucked it and was already in a full sprint, able to get and stay ahead of tailback Greg Franklin. The touchdown turned the game around.
Disruptive, unable to be blocked, savage - the sophomore defensive end again had a monster game and this time had the stats to back it up. Clowney had seven tackles, 3.5 for loss, and two sacks. UAB coach Garrick McGee called him arguably the best player in college football.
Shaq Wilson
The senior linebacker continues to be a plug in the middle of the defense, stuffing runs like some folks eat popcorn. Wilson led the Gamecocks with eight tackles and had half of one for loss. UAB rushed for 27 yards.
Bruce Ellington
Who saw Ellington becoming USC's top possession receiver? He got open for five catches for 98 yards, most of the damage on a long toss after Dylan Thompson had gotten off the hook of two near-interceptions. That set up a touchdown. He's filling the role that many had pegged for Ace Sanders]/db].
Dylan Thompson
He had to come in without any extra encouragement and looked rather rough, until he connected with Ellington and then with Damiere Byrd. The quiet man of the offense ended with 177 yards on 5-of-10 passing, with two touchdowns and no picks. If Connor Shaw can't play, USC is confident in the backup.
