It was a busy night for Javon Kinlaw, getting drafted and having the accompanying whirlwind of interviews, media obligations and celebrations following but he was able to take a minute for a quick call from his former coach.
Amidst the fanfare, Will and Carol Muschamp gave Kinlaw a ring Thursday night to congratulate him on being picked in he first round.
"I"m so proud of you. It's a great example of a guy who doesn't let circumstances define who he was," you hear Muschamp say. "I'm so proud of you. Keep going. This is the starting line, not finish line, right?"
Kinlaw was picked No. 14 overall by the San Fransisco 49ers, joining Deebo Samuel in the bay area.
He's the second Gamecock of the Muschamp era to go in the first round, joining Hayden Hurst, who went No. 25 overall to the Ravens in 2017.
Kinlaw is coming off an All-SEC season where he had six sacks and dominated his way into a first-round selection and the highest Gamecock off the board since Jadeveon Clowney went No. 1 overall in 2014.
"You're the best, man. Enjoy it," Muschamp told Kinlaw. "You've worked your ass off to put yourself in this situation. I'm proud of you."
