Gamecocks in the pros: Sept. 6-11

MLB

--Jackie Bradley went 5-for-18 (.278) for Boston with eight runs and two home runs, including a go-ahead three-run shot Sunday. He had six RBIs total this week and the Red Sox are clinging to a two-game lead atop the AL East.

--Steve Pearce went 3-for-12 (.250) with Baltimore. He scored one run in three straight games he's played in as the Orioles try to hold on to the AL Wildcard.

--Whit Merrifield went 7-for-17 (.412) with Kansas City and is currently sporting a seven-game hitting streak. He also scored two runs and drove in three more.

--Justin Smoak went 0-for-7 with Toronto and is playing intermittently as the Blue Jays try and keep pace with the Orioles for one of two wildcard spots.

--Sam Dyson made three appearances for Texas, picking up a save in all three. He gave up three hits—one in each appearance—and no runs. He also struck out three batters and now has 34 saves this season.

Triple-A

--Jordan Montgomery made his first playoff start Friday for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Yankees) pitching seven scoreless innings. He struck out five batters while only giving up three hits. He won the game and the RailRiders advance to the next round of the playoffs.

--Tyler Webb made one appearance for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Yankees), giving up two runs on four hits in one inning. He also struck out two while walking two more.

Double-A

--Joel Seddon made his first playoff start for the Midland RockHounds (Oakland), pitching a five-inning shutout where he gave up five hits. He also struck out four as the RockHounds advance to the next round.

--Max Schrock went 4-for-12 (.333) with three runs and four RBIs for the Midland RockHounds (Oakland).

--Evan Beal made one appearance for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Kansas City), pitching two innings of perfect baseball. He also registered four strikeouts. The Naturals advanced to the next round of the playoffs.

Single-A Full Season

--Taylor Widener made one appearance for the Charleston RiverDogs (Yankees), pitching 4.1 innings and giving up no runs on one hit. He struck out six batters and got the win but Charleston was eliminated from the playoffs. Widener finishes his first season (Single-A full and short seasons) going 3-0 with a 0.47 ERA and 59 strikeouts.

Single-A Short Season

--Dom Thompson-Williams went 4-for-13 (.308) with the Staten Island Yankees (Yankees) with two runs and a RBI. The Yankees were eliminated from the playoffs, however. Thompson-Williams finishes his first pro season hitting .246 with three home runs and 16 RBIs.
